ANGELIKA’S NOTE

Set on the backdrop of New York City's Lower East Side, Peter Sollettt's RAISING VICTOR VARGAS is "divinely realized… like sunshine burning through a cloud bank" (New York Times). An official selection of the San Sebastian, Cannes, and Sundance Film Festivals, RAISING VICTOR VARGAS is rated an impeccable 96% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and is a deeply felt, authentic coming-of-age tale in which a teenager struggles to find some sanity while surrounded by an eccentric grandmother, a crazy new girlfriend, and a longing younger brother.

SYNOPSIS

On New York City’s Lower East Side, Dominican teen and aspiring ladies’ man Victor Vargas (Victor Rasuk) has nothing but girls on his mind. Though he talks a big game at the local pool, Vargas’ true experience amounts to nothing more than a string of romantic rejections. After Vargas fails to improve his abysmal reputation by bedding an overweight classmate, he chooses a much more difficult target – the stunning and stuck-up Judy Ramirez (Judy Marte).
