ANGELIKA’S NOTE

Acclaimed director/writer Anthony Chen (ILO ILO, GRANDMA) delivers "a warm, enveloping blanket of compassion" (Slash Film) with WET SEASON, "the sweetness is simply overwhelming.” Chen brings this simmering Singapore-set drama to boiling point, whilst using an associative and poetic editing rhythm, repeating colors and shapes to highlight the small parallels that link people, and reveal the profound in lovely and subtle ways. With uniformly sensitive performances from the returning cast of ILO ILO, Chen’s latest work is the classy and well-measured teacher-student drama that will get you weeping.

SYNOPSIS

It’s monsoon season in Singapore and the city is pouring with rain. WET SEASON follows the plight of Ling, a Chinese language teacher, whose marriage and school life are fraying apart because she is unable to bear a child. But an unlikely friendship with a student helps her reaffirm her identity.
