ANGELIKA’S NOTE

From Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg (2006, Best Documentary Feature, Deliver Us From Evil) in collaboration with the multiple Academy Award®-winning team of Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh (2003, Best Picture & Best Adapted Screenplay, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King), WEST OF MEMPHIS tells the untold story behind an extraordinary and desperate fight to stop the State of Arkansas from killing an innocent man. WEST OF MEMPHIS is a deeper look into the failure of justice in Arkansas regarding the West Memphis Three – and the fight to stop the state from executing an innocent man. The West Memphis Three were three young men who were imprisoned as teenagers, convicted of the murders of three boys. However, the case is widely known for how it was mishandled by the state and the law. "The film is so utterly transfixing you won't believe almost two-and-a-half hours have passed when the final credits roll" (Irish Times).

SYNOPSIS

Filmmaker Amy Berg tells the story of the fight to stop the state of Arkansas from executing an innocent man. Beginning with an examination into the police investigation into the 1993 murders of three boys in West Memphis, Arkansas, Berg brings to light new evidence surrounding the arrest and conviction of Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley. All three were teens at the time and lost 18 years of their lives after being wrongly convicted and imprisoned.
