ANGELIKA’S NOTE

"Richly layered, deeply felt, from the creative genius of Aisling Walsh" (New York Observer). MAUDIE centers on a Canadian folk artist (Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins, THE SHAPE OF WATER, BLUE JASMINE) who develops an unlikely romance with reclusive fishmonger Everett Lewis (Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke, BOYHOOD, TRAINING DAY). Maudie's determination for her art, along with her partnership with Everett, blossoms into a career as a famous folk artist, bringing them closer together in ways they never imagined.

SYNOPSIS

Based on the true story of an unlikely romance, Director Aisling Walsh’s MAUDIE follows reclusive Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke), who hires the fragile yet determined Maudie (Sally Hawkins) as his housekeeper. Maudie, bright-eyed but hunched with crippled hands, yearns to be independent, to live away from her protective family and she also yearns, passionately, to create art. Unexpectedly, Everett finds himself falling in love. MAUDIE charts Everett’s efforts to protect himself from being hurt, Maudie’s deep and abiding love for this difficult man and her surprising rise to fame as a folk painter.
